WARNING ABOUT THE NEW SCAM ON EBAY ADS
Hello everyone, I wanted to warn all Ebay users about the new scam on Ebay Classifieds that is becoming very popular. I’ll tell you how some Africans, mainly from Ivory Coast, have organized it. They reply to Ebay Classifieds ads, pretend to be interested in an item, but write to you in a very poor Italian, while claiming to be French; but you quickly realize there are words that just don’t add up, neither in Italian nor in French. They suggest, despite the clear note in the ad that payment is accepted only via PayPal, that they can’t and would rather do a bank transfer. They ask you for the details and all your data:
IBAN CODE
BIC CODE
THE BANK NAME AND ADDRESS
THE BENEFICIARY'S FIRST AND LAST NAME
CELL PHONE NUMBER
HOME ADDRESS (they also offer home delivery by courier at their expense and arranged by them, with no hassle for the seller, and that already “smells” pretty suspicious). Not to mention the fact that he writes to me that when I’m available and when I deem it appropriate, I will decide when the shipment will happen — I was amazed, because I said to myself: "Who gives you all this trust and you’re not even Italian!" In the moment you tell them that you only sell with PayPal, they disappear from circulation, never another email, not even to say they disagree, contradicting all that kindness, even too much, used in the previous emails. I searched the internet and discovered that in this way they are “stealing” a lot of identities, because then I didn’t fully understand what happens next, I read that if you accept, they will then tell you that there is another fee to pay or else the bank transfer won’t be credited, and then from there the identity theft happens. I am reporting what is happening, and if someone who has understood exactly what is going on wants to explain it below, we will be grateful. I read that already thousands of people have been scammed. WARNING!!!

·2 years agoGood morning.
Here is what happened.
An user contacts me interested in buying one of my items. He says he is abroad, but that he will cover the shipping costs via FedEx.
After agreeing on the price and removing the listing from the site, I receive an alleged email from BANK OF AFRICA with the subject "TRANSFER NOTIFICATION IN EXECUTION".
The buyer/scammer contacts me through a WhatsApp Business account, telling me that within 10 minutes I must send him 200 euros in order to unlock the 400-euro bank transfer that he says he has already made but that appears to be "frozen" due to tax checks.
To which I tell him that I do not want to proceed with the transaction until I have received the agreed sum. So the buyer/scammer suddenly changes his tone, threatening to call his lawyer and sue me.
I contact my bank (and also BANK OF AFRICA) and the police, receiving confirmation from everyone that it is a scam.

I think it’s the classic "Nigerian scam" where they manage to steal your data and money
and almost all of them come from the Ivory Coast

·4 years agoAlso be careful of the eBay scam: registering with a bank account to receive sales payments, and when you decide not to make any more sales and so decide to delete the account, eBay forces you to add a new account if you want to delete the first one, but if I no longer want to sell on eBay and only buy from sellers, why can’t I delete the bank account and leave only the PayPal one for buying? To me it’s 100 x100 a scam, I own my account and I decide whether to keep it or remove it, I don’t trust eBay handling my money, sooner or later I’ll file a complaint if I can’t delete the bank account without having to add a new one. Every day eBay becomes more and more hostile to sellers.

I recommend doing a search on Google with the keyword DATA RETENTION.
We are talking about legal regulations that require the retention of user data from 3 to 10 years.
It seems to me that eBay has been more than TRANSPARENT about this, correctly informing sellers about its own PRIVACY and personal data.
Other platforms simply APPARENTLY delete accounts without properly informing users that their data will remain stored for several years.
BY LAW eBay, Amazon, the phone operator, the bank, the email provider, and so on cannot delete this data, they are required to keep SENSITIVE data for years before they can actually delete it.
In conclusion, this is not a scam but simply legal obligations.
Kind regards.
