Hello everyone,
As per the subject, I'm looking for users who, like me, fell victim to the same scam, that is, between November 2019 and January 2020 they bought Dyson hairdryers on eBay (Supersonic or Airwrap) advertised as new and original and instead ended up with a counterfeit product that looked identical. The purchase must have been made from an Italian eBay seller who is no longer on the e-commerce site.

Regarding your question, keep in mind that there are several Dyson clones...
Some are very well made, others with less refined workmanship.
In general, the lifespan of a vacuum cleaner also depends on how many hours it is used, what kind of material is being vacuumed, whether regular cleaning is done, etc.

·3 years agoI was scammed, they sold me a fake Dyson Airwrap but I realized it too late to make a return. The seller was verymodel, purchased in May 2021

·3 years agoHas anyone managed to get a refund? I bought a Dyson Supersonic in March 2022 through the eBay platform, paid with PayPal. I had to take it in for repair because it no longer worked (May 2023), and the manufacturer determined that it is a counterfeit product. The seller is no longer active on the platform, but at this point the responsibility falls to eBay, which did not ensure the proper transparency, security, and authenticity of the products advertised on the platform.
If it is not possible to proceed amicably, I will contact the competent authorities and consumer association.

·3 years agoI really don't think so. You would never blame the shopping mall if you were scammed in one of its stores. Every seller is solely responsible for what they sell.

·3 years agoEbay gives you 30 days to open a dispute for an item not as described.

The problem is that very likely you let yourself be seduced by this seller because he was offering a particularly advantageous price compared to the official Dyson price.
Basically you thought you were buying an original official product and paying less for it.
You wanted to save money up front, but you didn't realize you had a counterfeit item in your hands.
Personally, I don't see many possible ways to resolve this matter.
I think you'll have to buy a new Dyson device, but this time buy it original from an official distributor.

fortunately it is absolutely not as you claim, and a recent case confirmed that liability also extends to the website/platform that facilitates the fraudulent transaction by hosting the listing; in this case Ebay (it sponsored the seller’s ad on the various comparison sites), and I quote: "The victim, having joined the civil action with the aim of obtaining compensation, also requested to summon to court as the “civilly liable party” (that is, the entity legally called upon to reimburse civil damages in place of the defendant) the very site that had facilitated the unlawful transaction".
Furthermore, the price was in line with the market price and nothing suggested it was a counterfeit product (€389.99) compared with the €449.00 on the official site.
It was only once Dyson customer support got involved that the bitter discovery was made that it was a counterfeit product.
As a result, I will proceed against Ebay.it for what happened and for facilitating a fraudulent transaction.

considering that a discounted price of 15% can be obtained by a supplier, certainly not by a private individual, there were grounds to understand that something was wrong...

All the more reason it made no sense to take the risk of buying it from an unofficial seller.
Rather than filing a complaint against eBay (not even against the person who sold it to you), I advise you to be more careful because there are lots of clones / fakes / copies out there, many very well made, from perfumes to watches, jewelry, fashionable clothing, work equipment, all the way to tech gadgets.
These fakes can be found everywhere, even on Amazon, so you just have to be careful to avoid buying from unknown sellers with a short or very short track record or from those offering price discounts on branded items that are in high demand, which sell themselves without any need for discounts.

Yes, I think the only solution is to report them, but for a few hundred euros it often isn't worth it, and these scammers know it and keep going undisturbed.

·3 years agoThey moved all the factories to China and now they reproduce pretty much everything.
Lithium batteries, motorized gardening products, clothes, power supplies, appliances, etc etc
I once ended up with a counterfeit Apple power supply, but it was identical to the original; given the price, I got suspicious. After various searches I discovered it was a clone with different internal circuitry and poor quality, without the proper protections and certifications. I noticed it without taking it apart because the green LED behaved differently from the original, but I had to devote quite a bit of time to research and tests.

·3 years agoI suggest reporting the matter to the Carabinieri or Guardia di Finanza since it is obvious that there are rather serious and criminal violations. I don’t think the money spent can be recovered, but at least to stop this illegal trade. Today it was Dyson, but tomorrow we could run into some other counterfeit item. If they are allowed to operate freely, they will always sell different items with other profiles.

I’m reporting that I purchased a Dyson Supersonic in December 2021, successfully registered it on the mydyson site to activate the warranty.
Warranty successfully activated, with the correct description of the item I purchased.
Sent in for service while still under warranty, with a reply from support saying that the item was found to be counterfeit.
So warranty activation does not guarantee the product’s authenticity.

Support confirmed to me that for some counterfeit models it is almost impossible to realize it until you disassemble them for maintenance; moreover, in my case the original warranty had also been properly activated. The dyson site does not have comparative photos between fake and original, but on another very thorough site (forum) they compared the differences between one and the other with the help of images. Only then was I able to verify visually the real tiny differences between the two items. My copy even showed the same weight as the original and even the dyson marking on the power plug.
Unfortunately two years have passed since the purchase, so paypall can no longer deal with it (6 months to open a dispute) and since the user "pregio14" no longer seems active (to be honest I couldn't figure it out, anyway I called ebay to have him blocked) this route also turns out to be a dead end.

·3 years agoThat user is no longer on eBay but back then PayPal provided the seller's details in transactions, so by tracing the PayPal transaction you can file a complaint against the seller. Unfortunately I don't think there are any other solutions...

unfortunately we're talking about December 2021... the new payments came into effect in March 2021, so it is not possible to retrieve the seller's information through Paypal.

you're right! I hadn't considered the month. So what should be done in these cases? Report eBay (which collected the payment) for complicity to force it to provide the seller's data to the authorities? Hmm... something is wrong with this system.

·3 years agoHe alone can't do it... he should report it to the competent authorities... it will be the latter who will have the "power" to get the seller's data... if he still exists, if he closed the account and requested deletion of the data, even this route won't help...

·2 years agoBut what does that mean? Why can't a person resell an item on a marketplace like eBay at a lower price? We paid almost €300 for it, and around you could find it on sale for 400-something. So not that low. Do your research before playing the expert.

OP5 years agoHi, I already reported the seller since, when I tracked him down, he refused to provide a peaceful solution and even slandered me.
I’d like to understand whether it’s the same seller; I’d like to send you a private message to find out. The other one is no longer on eBay, but thanks to the payment via Paypal we had the details.
To know whether it’s counterfeit, you’ll definitely need to contact Dyson, who can verify the serial code by phone; if they find any anomalies, as they told me, they’ll offer to collect it from you to open it and check... and if it turns out to be counterfeit, they’ll destroy it and send you a certificate attesting to its nature.

·3 years agohi, the same thing happened to me. when I tried to report the faulty hairdryer to the seller and Dyson's refusal to fix it because it was counterfeit, the seller swore up and down that they sell completely original products and said that if I had insisted, they would have sued me for slander

From this discussion it emerged that, aesthetically, the clones are identical to the originals and to notice the differences you have to take them apart (voiding the warranty); moreover, even counterfeit codes are accepted and are valid for warranty purposes.
It is not necessarily the case that a seller is actually aware that they are selling non-original products.
Once the warranty used to be sent with the seller's stamp, today everything is done online......
Today something similar would be needed, where the seller registers the product serial number together with the receipt and, in the event of problems with authenticity, the seller/distributor would then be responsible.

·3 years agoI'm not sure the seller doesn't know where the goods came from. Dyson has particular sales channels and buying examples (from unofficial sellers) to resell them is already a sign that something isn't right.
I would file a report with the Guardia di Finanza, then they'll take care of checking whether the seller knew or not about the authenticity of what they were selling.

·3 years agoThe potential buyer should take two factors into account, in my opinion, that are important.
1) The price. Original dyson products are never found at bargain-basement prices.
2) The seller must be an authorized and official dyson supplier.
The author of the topic stated that he bought it on ebay. And allow me to doubt that an authorized dyson reseller would sell on ebay at the official selling price.
Anyone who buys on ebay at the very least wants to save quite a bit of money compared to the price of the original; otherwise it is advisable to buy it in a store so that there is no risk that it will be stolen during the journey or that it could be damaged during transport (we are talking about expensive and quite sought-after items).
In conclusion, if you follow the official purchasing channels and do not scour the internet in search of the best price, in my opinion you can be fairly calm.
