Watch purchased at auction never received
Hello everyone, I’d like to share with you my terrible experience with eBay and with a seller (German, now no longer registered, what a coincidence...). On December 1st, 2023, I won an auction for a watch from this German seller (bino....... whose name is Alex). On December 5th he still hasn’t shipped, then he finally decides to. After 15 days, checking from time to time, the shipment tracking on DHL shows that the package is being returned to sender due to an incorrect address (my address, which is listed in my eBay account, is correct and that’s where all the packages I buy on eBay arrive, but I won’t be using it anymore considering the poor security in purchases). I try to send a message to the seller, but magically he is “no longer a registered user on eBay,” so I report what happened to eBay customer service, who reply that I should contact DHL or the seller for an explanation; setting aside the seller, of whom there is no longer any trace, I contact DHL, but they tell me they can’t give me any information because the package has gone back to Germany and only the seller can unlock the situation. I contact eBay’s terrible customer service again and they tell me that the seller provided the address to which he shipped the package and that the address is correct, so for them the case is closed even on appeal and I will not receive a refund. The idea I’ve come to is this: the seller had already taken the money and the item came back because he wrote an address that doesn’t exist, eBay took the commissions on my money and I lost everything. Naturally, for them it’s better that I lose the money and not them! This doesn’t seem like a policy that will pay off in the long run because I’m just one drop and drops fill the sea, and from what I can see there are many who have lost money because they were scammed like me and who surely no longer want to risk again with “the eBay customer guarantee” which in fact does not exist! I hope that many like me will become aware of the very poor customer care this platform has. I will turn to the postal police, the consumer association, and I will tell everyone I know about this story so they can become aware of the situation. Thanks to everyone who wants to give me a suggestion on what to do. Antonio

·2 years agoIn general, eBay customer protection works, and from reading the forum posts, it is heavily weighted toward the buyer.
When you do not receive the item, you need to open a request for eBay intervention: https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/ottieni-aiuto-per-un-oggetto-che-non-arrivato?id=4042&st=7
If the process is closed in the seller's favor, it means they responded to the process by sending eBay a copy of the shipping document certifying that a parcel (with that code) was shipped to the address provided by eBay and, from the tracking for the code, it could be seen that it was returned to sender because of address problems.
If that's the situation, it seems obvious to me that the problem is more with the courier than with the seller. This year, right before the holidays, even logistics services considered very reliable have gone into a tailspin.
To sum up, if you paid for the item (even if it was returned to sender) it is now your property. If the seller has disappeared or refuses to send it to you again (at your expense), you can report them for embezzlement.
