Very old lira notes
Hello, I found some very old lira coins at my house. I’m not very knowledgeable about this world, I’m looking for someone passionate about old lire who could appraise them or sell them if you’re interested. I’m attaching the photo.

·3 years agoI’m not an expert but before using cleaning products and/or abrasives, look it up on the internet because you could affect their value.
Maybe someone more experienced will be able to give more details on the issue of cleaning coins.

Just today I was looking for information on this 2001 two-euro coin and on eBay I find listings for 650 euros, like this one here:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I can tell this coin is worth nothing except its face value of two euros (see photo attached)

Without explaining anything about its special nature, apart from a comment that even someone who has never seen a cent in their life could make. An example is the one shown by heavenwelkin above. What margins such listings can bring in economically is an impenetrable mystery, but there are dozens of them. In every collecting field. But first and foremost it is necessary to know what can trigger a surprising value for a coin as common as a 2 Euro coin. A coin of this type whose value is the one shown on its face can rise to as much as 3,000 euros if there are minting errors at the mint and, even worse, if after the inaccuracy is noticed and the flow is stopped, many have already been put into circulation. A peculiarity of valuable 2 Euro coins is, for example, misalignment. That is, when the metal part is not centered with respect to the outer one. Let me explain better, I did this search on Google:

as you can see from the results obtained, eBay is very well indexed on Google.
Maybe a seller who wants to promote the items in their account (in this case coins) could throw out absurd prices for items that appear very often among search keywords just to attract attention.
But that doesn't seem to me to be the case with the buyer mentioned in the link in the post just above.

·3 years agoEbay is not the right place to start getting an idea of the value of these coins. If you try to take a look at listings for 20 or 50 cent coins from 1940, you'll see asking prices ranging from 5-6 euros up to 3000. The situation doesn't improve for the lira.
Besides, the condition of the ones you put in the photo is certainly not appealing.

·3 years agoYou have mixed coins, including pieces from the 1940s and earlier. I’ll focus on those that are worth more than one or two euros, regardless of their condition. I see the 50-cent pieces with the eagle with semi-spread wings from 1941 in nickel. If both sides are in good condition, it can be worth 15-20 euros. (I own about twenty of them) And then.. plot twist! The 5 Lire with the bunch of grapes minted in 1950. These were put into circulation from 1946 to 1950. Yours are from 1950 and are worth 50 euros. Even if they look very worn. But if you happen to have a coin from 1946 or 1947 then things change radically because they can be worth up to 1200 euros. If they are also in excellent surface condition, even much more.
