Purchasing a figure from Japan - Calculating additional costs (customs, duties, fees, etc.)
Good evening, as per the topic title, I would like to buy a figure from Japan. The current price is
US $24,00 Approximately EUR 22,30 (as indicated in the listing), but it could increase since it should be an auction. For shipping I would go with the free option (Economy International Shipping). If the price were to be around 25 euros total (at the end of the auction), adding customs, duties, fees, etc. what would the final amount be?
Also, having never taken part in an auction, what currency are bids made in? In euros? (I ask because, as I wrote above, the current price is in dollars)

·2 years agoAt prices this low, a lot depends on the carrier charges. Anyway, consider 22% VAT and between 2 and 15 euros for the charges.

OP2 years agoAt the moment the price has gone up to €27.81, so 27.81+22%+15 (considering the maximum, since I don't know exactly how the charges are calculated) = €48.92?
I can't understand how people in general manage to buy figures from Japan... online I read and see videos saying it's convenient, but with all these added costs I think it's quicker to buy from Italy...
Does this whole thing, VAT, customs duties, etc., also apply from China? If I remember correctly, I bought a few items worth a few euros from there, and I didn't have to pay any extra charges.

OP2 years agoSorry for the double post, but I couldn't edit the previous message.
I also asked the seller (Japanese) for info, and he told me that according to his research, no customs duties are applied for private-to-private transactions if the winning bid is less than 45 euros. The “unlucky” ones could be charged 22% VAT. Finally, he added that there could be other fees (I don't know what kind).

·2 years agoCustoms duties do not apply under 150 euros.
VAT at 22% is always applied to goods originating from a non-EU country.
Then there are the courier fees. Post office charges 2 euros in commission up to 22 euros, and 5 between 22 and 150. Other couriers have decidedly steeper rates, up to 15 euros.
