Fairness of auctions on eBay
I took part in an online auction to buy 2nd generation Apple earPods with charging case.
The auction was ending today, January 5, at 14:25.
At 11:26 I received an email from eBay telling me there were 2 hours left before the deadline.
At 11:35, that is, after just under 10 minutes instead of 2 hours, I received an email from eBay warning me that the auction had ended and the item was no longer for sale, with the mocking line "Sorry, you missed out on this item" (!).
The item was sold for a price of €24.50, much lower than the market price (on eBay it goes for €60 and up).
Is it normal for the auction to have ended about 3 hours earlier than what was advertised, communicated, and shown on the site and in the emails received, without giving time to place a higher bid?
Unfortunately, the eBay site does not provide information or contacts for clarifications on the matter (or if they are available they are completely hard to find), so I find the information rather opaque.
The final impression is that of a huge scam.
Can anyone convince me otherwise?

·2 years agoIf there were other offers, the seller can close the auction before the deadline and award the item to the last valid bidder.
