eBay guarantee and request for initial shipping costs after refund
Hello,
I returned an item because I realized afterward that I had bought the wrong model. Everything went smoothly and I was refunded the full amount, including the original shipping costs. I read in the policy that this seems to be normal if the seller accepts returns.
On the same day as the refund, I was contacted by the seller by phone, who asked me for the original shipping costs via Postepay or PayPal. Is that normal? Why didn’t they deduct them directly from the refund?

·3 years agoBeyond violating eBay's rules, a request like this also violates the Italian rules of the Consumer Code.
Art. 56, paragraph 1
Obligations of the trader in the event of withdrawal
1. The trader shall reimburse all payments received from the consumer, including, where applicable, delivery costs, without undue delay and in any event within fourteen days from the day on which he is informed of the consumer's decision to withdraw from the contract pursuant to Article 54. The trader shall make the reimbursement referred to in the first sentence using the same means of payment used by the consumer for the initial transaction, unless the consumer has expressly agreed otherwise and provided that the consumer does not incur any costs as a result of the reimbursement. In the event that payment was made by means of negotiable instruments, if these have not yet been presented for payment, they must be returned. Any clause providing for limitations on the reimbursement to the consumer of sums paid as a result of the exercise of the right of withdrawal is void.
Obviously private sellers are not obliged to follow this rule, but if they state that they accept returns due to change of mind, they must then follow (by contract with eBay) the same provisions that apply to professionals.

If you opened a return case with eBay, you should have paid the return shipping yourself.
If you did that, you're all set.

Once you return the item, you're entitled to a FULL refund (including shipping)
Once the process is completed and you've received the refund, you don't need to do anything. You're all set.
If the seller asks you to reverse the shipping charges to be paid outside of eBay, know that they can't do that, and if they do, they are violating eBay's rules.
