I had to cover the shipping costs myself; the seller didn’t provide me with any label
If the return procedure was for an item not as described, the return shipping costs were to be borne by the seller.
If the seller did not provide a shipping label, you should have contacted eBay.
If you decided to pay the shipping costs, you went outside the procedures provided, so these will not be refunded to you because it was not expected that you would pay them yourself.
If it was a return with shipping at your expense (because you changed your mind), then it's fair that you paid the shipping costs.
If it was a return at the seller's expense (faulty item or not as described), why did you ship it before receiving the label? If the seller didn't want to send it to you, all you had to do was ask eBay to step in.
