VAT on second-hand goods
Summary: The discussion is about the VAT applied to second-hand goods. ezio952 starts the topic, and heavenwelkin replies to the comment, but no specific details are provided about the arguments or conclusions raised.
follow-up to previous report:
I am a private buyer from Milan and after winning a second-hand hard disk listed for sale by a private seller in the province of Como, at the time of payment I see VAT added – never mentioned in the listing.
I speak with eBay support and I’m told that an English law requires taxation on the sale and purchase of digital goods and that I should have known!
What do you think?
Personally I paid, but I’m left with the feeling that I was cheated.

·1 year agoHi ezio952
Unfortunately the problem is something else.
Como borders Switzerland and some zip codes are recognized by eBay as Swiss.
So it’s as if you had bought an item from Switzerland, which is why you pay VAT on it.
It’s a known eBay issue that has never been addressed and/or resolved.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Kind regards.
