New interface > advanced search > the "European Union" option is missing.
But who is the "genius" who every time they make aesthetic updates to the site makes its functionality worse??
It's really true that we're in the age of appearance: outward looks matter more than something's functionality/substance/efficiency...
The new interface (with the "cool", "modern", minimal, smartphone-style graphics) no longer lets you select "All over the world / Continental Europe / European Union" in advanced search.
Now the only option is to select the country where you want to search one by one (e.g. Italy, France, etc.), but if someone wanted to extend their search across all of Europe, they can no longer do it... unless they start repeating their searches 20 times each (one for each country in the EU).

For further "worsenings" of the site (which is now bordering on unusability!), read my post from a few months ago (for which I received no reply!).

Ebay: WAKE UPPP !!! .... you're sending the site to the dogs !! ... nothing works anymore !!
I'm saying this for your own good!!! ...

·2 years agoIt's basically unusable now, I collect and trade model cars and in the search it only shows me (or almost only) Hot Wheels models - AMERICAN ones - with crazy shipping costs ..... if that's how things are, I'll abandon the platform after 15 years ....

·2 years agoIn 15 years the WORLD has changed, we have to move / evolve together with the world that changes.
You’re leaving the platform because the algorithms HAVE BEEN PUT INTO ACTION WITH THE PRECISE GOAL OF MAKING PEOPLE BUY THINGS THEY DIDN’T GO LOOKING FOR सीधे?
Come on, it’s like that everywhere....... where have you been in the last few years ?
SOLUTIONS: try the ADVANCED search and spend more time searching for items.
Everything has become BUSINESS and ENTERTAINMENT, they do it on purpose to keep you staring at the screen for hours and hours.
And I’m telling you that on ebay the situation hasn’t gotten out of hand yet.....
Aliexpress, with its sophisticated algorithms, offers you a price discount based on a whole series of factors.... monitoring user activity is also used for these purposes.
Basically I had to buy something that 3 days ago cost 25 euro (I was very interested), 2 days ago it cost 22 euro (I was moderately interested) and I bought it for 17 euro and something today because I needed it but didn’t want to spend that money.
We’ve reached this point: algorithms set you a selling price and see how you respond, then depending on how you behave they ADJUST the price according to what they think might be the right one for you.
“The promotion lasts only xx hours, hurry up”, those are prices generated FOR YOU by the algorithms.
The same thing on TEMU
You don’t even have time to put the stuff in the cart that after a few hours you get a notification that the item is no longer available and then one notification after another.
Basically after 1 or 2 days you find yourself having to search for most of the items all over again.
It’s constant stress, it’s designed to put you in a state of anxiety and agitation and push you to buy.
It’s become a SLIPPERY situation but that’s how it is, what are we supposed to do?
WE NEED TO KEEP UP TO DATE AND STAY IN STEP WITH THE TIMES, so as not to be SWEPT AWAY by all these technologies, we need to stay AWAKE and FOCUSED otherwise it’s over.
Kind regards to everyone and have a good day.

·2 years agoI'm furious about this choice too.
My report: I no longer have the zone filters like OP. It rarely happens that they’re available for some products.
This wouldn’t be an insurmountable problem if, in fact, the advanced search filter worked. When I select "European Union" it then only returns products from the US market.
Crazy stuff ... I wonder if eBay admins are paid by Amazon ...

·2 years agoIt's ridiculous. I can't find anything anymore. Everything comes from the USA with impossible shipping costs. WAKE UP !!!

·3 years agoHas it really been like this for a while? For me the change happened today, and I’m happy about it, now search is much better! 🏆
Now I hope they improve the new Summary layout, right now it’s pretty disastrous... Let’s hope for the best! ✌️

·3 years agoGuys, I'm almost afraid to write it, but it LOOKS like they've added the missing options in search! Today this popped up for me (check the attachment)... Alleluia, maybe complaining worked! Let's keep our fingers crossed! 🌈

·3 years agoI have the same problem too, now the advanced search page won’t let me select European Union and Continental Europe, because these options no longer appear. I’ve been registered on Ebay Italy for years and I almost always use it from my PC, but I’ve never had something like this happen. I understand changes, but not when they take away options instead of adding them. If anyone knows how to do a search so the missing options reappear, please say so, and an explanation from Ebay would also be much appreciated. I’m attaching an image of what I see.

I confirm what you wrote, I’m currently seeing the same advanced search screen as you.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoThanks @heavenwelkin, super kind and quick to reply. I’ll definitely try that site, at least it’ll patch things up for a while, but obviously it can’t be the final solution, Ebay must fix the Advanced Search page, otherwise it’s (almost) useless. What’s more, I find it ridiculous that the first country that appears is America (in several forms too, one wasn’t enough) and that a lot of the text is still in English. Apparently they didn’t even bother translating the whole page; we’re in Italy and the first country should be ours, instead we end up making the usual provincial fool of ourselves, the poor relatives... How lovely.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoI believe the changes always start from the USA and the UK and then are brought over to Europe and elsewhere.
It’s no coincidence (and you noticed it too) that parts of the site are in English and that at the moment the “coincidental” default search is the American one rather than the European one.
We’ll see what the future holds.... if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.
Best regards.

OP3 years agoTo do the "advanced search" I click on the word "Advanced" (small in gray)... which is to the right of the big blue "SEARCH" button (on the home page).
I’ve always done it this way to set the search parameters I want...
If there’s another way to do an alternative "advanced search" (as I read in the last messages: there was mention of "filters" or stuff like that) ... let me know how to do it... thanks!
From what I understood reading the last messages, the method that heavenwelkin uses allows searching in EU, the one I use, on the other hand, doesn’t...
Thanks for the clarifications.
Regards.

·3 years agoThe one described by Heavenwelkin is the search with filters, and there both the EU and Europe appear (understood as the EU + Switzerland and other non-EU European countries). But in advanced search it has disappeared; in fact it seems to be a page designed for a US user (with USA, North America, etc....). Maybe they still need to finish updating it.
Anyway, personally I've always found filters better than advanced search.

In fact, by default it shows Only USA, North America, Whole world.

·3 years agoAfter further verification, I confirm that Mario is right, the problem still persists today, but it is on the advanced search page.

OP3 years agotried logging out ------------------------> nothing changes.
tried in "private browsing" ---------> nothing changes.
tried the "Microsoft Edge" browser -------> nothing changes.
As far as I remember, I signed up on the site on ebay.it.
thanks anyway for the advice.

·3 years agoVery strange....
I did this test, I went onto ebay.it as a visitor via an American IP and the search doesn't change, it still gives me European Union / continental Europe.
At this point try to check whether your operating system is set to United States settings.
Also try using a smartphone through a browser in desktop mode by connecting (without logging in) to ebay.it
Because it is not normal for American search options to appear instead of European ones even without logging in with your account.
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoI obviously browse from desktop ...
I don't know if it’s clear, but this trend of converting all websites to a "minimal" design, smartphone style ... with big, rounded buttons, schematic icons... is mildly annoying me (see also the post office site, or the PayPal site, which have already jumped on this "style" ... or even the banks' sites).
It gets even more annoying if, in order to follow this style (ugly as hell!), they're even willing to sacrifice/compromise the efficiency and functionality of their site.
oh yes !! ... damn itttt! ... how cool!! ... now we look modern !! ... Yoohoo !! ... we've got big blue buttons !! (we're seriously super cool !!!! )👍👍 💩👍
actar80
·3 years agoIn another situation I would have said "you took the words right out of my mouth"; here I’ll write "you took the keys right from under my fingers"! 😂🤣
I totally agree with you, in the name of being modern and smart people have gone daft and prefer style over substance, because all this minimal graphics stuff is just smoke and mirrors!
The graphical changes they’ve made in Paypal too have made it harder to start certain procedures, especially for non-experts; before, the graphics were less flashy but the site was more efficient.
Now, since things like smartphones are smart, people on the other side have gone dumb too; they’ve put in giant buttons for idiots and these are the results.
For the problem that concerns you, try the last suggestion they gave you; if you can’t find the solution, contact support, because personally I don’t know how to help you.
Have a good evening
actar80
·3 years agoOn the desktop site it gives you the option to choose; the mobile site instead is limited, as I believe the app is too.
I agree with you that the old layout was more rational; from my experience, it's been since 2018 that they started messing up the site.
Then whoever answers support deliberately has no power to report things and make sure things change; I think it's all done so they almost never listen to opinions and suggestions. It's also true that they can't satisfy everyone's preferences, only collect those of the majority; probably most people are fine with it like this, or maybe they don't care about the majority at all. Who knows...
wargames_miniatures_hobbyist
OP3 years agoIn my case (even though the domain is ebay.it) it says:
- USA only
- North America
- worldwide
I’ve contacted support a ton of times: they always give an evasive, friendly, and patronizing answer, but without actually doing one damn concrete thing!
They always write the same old “empty communication formulas” typical of support departments, full of fake empathy and concern, like: “we’re very sorry... we’ll fix... we’ll do... our technicians are checking... if you need anything else don’t hesitate to contact us again ... etc”.
All “nice phrases” meant to make you end the conversation with the impression that you’ve been assisted by someone who will really care about your problem and will get to work to solve it...
... In reality it’s just a pile of useless gerunds and “fake maternal concern” that mean nothing (and meanwhile the problems are still there after years of bothering me).

·3 years agoGood morning wargames
These are the search options that eBay shows me.
In your case it could be an issue related to your account, maybe it was initially registered on the .com or there's some problem with a setting in your account.
Try doing a search on ebay.it without entering your account details (logged out), or use another clean internet browser to see if the problem persists.
Best regards.

·3 years agoOn which screen is it not possible to select the search in "European Union"?
I can still see it, whatever product search I do (see attached).
Also, this is a user forum like you, not eBay support.
