National package in a city different from mine

Hello

I made a purchase and there was a cable missing inside. I immediately wrote to support and they arranged to send it to me for free.

the shipment started with SDA and then the tracking switched to POSTEDELIVERY BUSINESS EXPRESS

the city the package left from is 50 minutes away from me, I thought it would be an easy, fast, direct trip but instead, last night checking the parcel I found it in Bologna, in a city completely different from where I live in Brianza (it’s also strange that it’s there in BO, given the difficult situation the region is unfortunately in).

why is that? Obviously the package is domestic and does not come from China or from abroad.

SDA has several HUBs

If yours is in Bologna, together with Piacenza and Rome they are the Central HUBs.

HUBs are scheduled stops where packages must pass through before reaching their final destination.

It doesn't matter if you are only ""50 km"" away, the package must still pass through a HUB, which then sorts it toward its destination.

as the other users told you, parcels and envelopes have their own “routes”: even if the city had been the same two minutes away and it was shipped....... the shipment makes its “tour” at the relevant sorting center and then gets delivered;

so, a shipment made from abroad with good connections could be delivered first than one made just around the corner but with longer timing due to various steps.... ( ...and it’s not that rare.... )

Years ago I shipped one item and the package went far away from the destination city only to come back, because they make some "particular and I’d say absurd routes," so the fact that it’s at the Bologna HUB is normal since it’s one of the main hubs.

So don’t worry. Of course the only doubt is that there could be delays given the unfortunate situation in the region, although I wouldn’t blame bad luck, but bad politics that from north to south now wreak havoc on the territories and people’s lives, but that’s another story!

Good morning,

unfortunately couriers are not door-to-door, even if the sender is close to you, couriers have specific hubs and routes, so Bologna is most likely the sorting center closest between sender and recipient.
