Payment deadline for an item won at auction
- Good evening, I’d like to understand what happens if I don’t pay for an item I won in an auction before the 4-day payment deadline — is the transaction automatically canceled?
- Let me explain better: I do intend to pay, it’s just that I’m also interested in another item being auctioned by the same seller and I’d like to save on shipping costs, but the auction will end after the 4-day payment deadline for the auction I’ve already won.
- How are the 4 days calculated? The message says I have to pay by March 23; on March 23 do I have the whole day to pay until 23:59 regardless, or does it depend on the time I won the auction? For example, if I won the auction 4 days earlier at 2 in the morning, do I have until 2 in the morning to pay, or will the deadline be extended until 23:59 that day?

You need to contact the seller right away because they may have set up an automatic cancellation mechanism that, after 4 days, will fully automatically cancel an order and in that case you would be penalized with a report as a non-paying bidder.
If the seller has not set up an automatic cancellation mechanism after a certain number of days, you don’t need to worry because there is no set time limit. It’s up to the seller whether to wait.
After 4 days the seller can cancel the auction or even wait 15 days.
Contact them and let them know that you are also interested in buying another item and see if they can perhaps offer you combined shipping.

There is no eBay automation, but after 4 days (also automatically, if this option is set) the seller can cancel the auction by reporting you to eBay as a non-paying user. So it’s enough for you to tell the seller to wait a few days and wait for their go-ahead.

You can contact the seller directly and arrange a combined shipment or a more convenient payment.
