Speechless, eBay getting worse and worse
Summary: fabio979 laments having received a defective item and not having received adequate support from either the seller or eBay to resolve the problem. After the seller asked to close the return while promising to reopen it, communication stopped, and eBay suggested unsatisfactory solutions. sika700 and cizeta1964 suggest that the buyer is also at fault for not following eBay’s rules, while ac.accessoriauto suggests that the seller used a dishonest tactic. fabio979 expresses distrust in eBay, saying they’d rather deal with the problem through PayPal if necessary.
I received a non-compliant/defective item for which I opened a return request.
But the seller isn’t sending me the shipping label so I can go ahead with the return.... asking me to close the case, which he says would then be reopened by him.
Well.. of course the seller is no longer replying to messages.
Even though ebay no longer has a number to speak with an agent “I find this shocking”, when I wrote in chat with some kind of agent, he told me that the case cannot be reopened and advised me to resell the item at a higher price because the case cannot be reopened... (this is complete madness)..
I’m counting on the PayPal dispute.
I think I’ll file a complaint against the scam seller and against Ebay, complicit in the system

·1 month agoSurely the seller was unfair, if you documented the defect it is your right to return it and the seller is obliged to send you the label, whether private or professional, he used the tactic of getting you to close the request because he knew you would no longer be able to reopen it and unfortunately you fell into the trap, never close a request unless you change your mind of your own free will. Now you can wait for the dispute on PayPal, if you provided all the proof of the defect ... You could also try seeing on eBay if it lets you open the dispute for item not as described (that would be another option besides the return) once it was possible to do it and they were two distinct and separate things now I don't know if they have changed

·1 month agoIt is important to be sure you want to cancel the request, because it is not possible to reopen a dispute once it has been closed.
According to eBay's rules, you've been on the platform for 24 years, you should know that.

·1 month agoEbay can't be complicit... when you closed the request, didn't the message appear saying it was no longer possible to reopen it?
Let's say you didn't really know how it worked...
Best regards.

OP1 month agoExactly but since I don't know how eBay works and it was a forcing by the seller that eBay verified I don't see why it can't be reopened.
Never again on eBay.

·1 month agoYou should have read eBay’s help page carefully and paid the utmost attention and gotten alarmed when you noticed the note saying you could no longer reopen the return request if you closed it.
Obviously the seller could never have reopened it, since that’s solely up to the buyer, and the pressure was due only to the fact that he knew full well you’d end up getting screwed.
They say you learn from your mistakes...
Kind regards.

OP1 month agoSo, in light of this, I should buy on eBay again? No thanks
cizeta1964
·1 month agoDon't buy... no one is forcing you, knowing that every marketplace has its own rules that it's good to know before buying and not after, because after it might be too late
fabio979
OP1 month agoThis is exactly where Ebay falls short, zero customer support, zero oversight.. if it were a serious company this incident would already have been resolved and the seller reported automatically.. but it’s easier to hide behind digital bureaucracy than to protect the seller and the consumer.
Amazon taught them nothing.. they all want to look like something they’ll never be.

·1 month agoIf you compare Amazon to eBay, you're making a huge mistake, because Amazon has nothing to teach anyone; it's the one that ruined the marketplaces by offering easy returns and the famous A-to-Z guarantee that takes potshots at all sellers.
If you don't inform yourself when using a completely ordinary site, the one at fault is the person using it, not the one providing the services.
Kind regards.
