Ebay automatic translations ALWAYS WRONG
How do you FORCE eBay to add a FLAG TO CHOOSE whether to translate listings or not?
Even the translations from English are often RIDICULOUS and MISLEADING.
I DEMAND to be able to choose whether to translate or not in "my settings".

·3 years agoyes, only with an open listing, as I wrote, I was able to do it because the original title is on the page, but in the search it’s not there, so I wouldn’t know, unless of the option indicated above.
If in the search they all had the little icon to add to favorites (the heart that appears on some), it would be easy, but I saw that not all of them have it and I don’t understand why 😄
As for the extensions on the Chrome or Firefox store, it’s full of dead extensions even a decade old 😄

·3 years agoFor a decade? Since the capture of Constantinople, I’d say. It’s like when you search the web for a name, whether it’s a medical practice, an agency, a shopkeeper, or the German brand of seeds for your beloved hamster. All the relevant references are outdated, sometimes they show the last update date, which goes back to the decade before last 😃 Or else they went bust and shut down ages ago. Since it costs money, no one bothers to delete or update anything. I wanted to look up, out of curiosity, the address of my family doctor, who died at just 60 in August 2019. I immediately saw the office address, the specialty, and the patient hours. All just like before. Anyone looking for it comes up empty. On the plus side, if you type in general practitioner, you get names even from central Africa and hundreds of offers for the treatment of every kind of ailment. If then you want to donate to any cause, including abolishing the allergic colors of toilet paper, you can do it right away. ·3 years agoSorry, but you can’t impose rules on a platform, whether it’s eBay or another one; everyone makes their own rules at home.
Anyway, if I remember correctly, under the listing title there’s the option "show in original language" (that is, in the language of the country of origin), you can copy it into Google Translate and read the translation there, but don’t expect 100% reliable translations even in English.
For the description text, it’s usually in the seller’s native language of the country of origin, you can always translate it with Google Translate.

·3 years agoFrom a PC, as far as the single product page is concerned, it's simple; you just need a Taper/Greasemonkey script to reverse how it works, i.e. show the original title and, via the popup, the translated one. I grabbed a random listing.
Whereas in search results, it should open each individual result in the background and then show you the original title, since after digging around I didn't see the original title shown anywhere in the code.
This is for the single product page, it's not the best-developed code obviously 😂

·3 years agoThis time the solution exists... but only from the app... on PC it seems it's not possible.
If you have Android, open the app, in the top left open the menu and go to Settings, scroll down to Translation and uncheck Enable translation...
Just tested it and it works.

·3 years agoDoing what you ask, or rather DEMAND, is not a simple thing; they would have to go back into the code and add functions that would then have to disable other functions, and every time they make major changes to the site some problem always comes up.
Anyway, it was good of you to point it out, but I don't think it's a priority feature because you can search on the original eBay site (UK, DE, FR, etc.) to get around these automatic translations.

·3 years agoYou're asking the wrong question... because that can't be done, it's a default setting and it can't be disabled.
If you want to view the titles in the original, you have to look for them on the original eBay site, or if you use Chrome or Firefox, there is an extension called "Translation Disabler for eBay"... I tested them but they don't work for me...

·3 years agoit's very old, I see it's from 2015, it probably was hooked to things that are no longer in the code. 😕

·3 years agoIf the extensions are still active, it is assumed they are updated by the developers...
The Tampermonkey extension tested on Chrome allows you to see the original title only when the listing is open... in the search list the automatically "translated" title remains.
Anyway, it's something...
