Private seller with no feedback
Hi everyone!
For the first time, I'm interested in an item sold by a private seller with zero feedback.
The item is worth around €300. If I pay with PayPal, am I protected against any problems (item not as described, seller disappearing, item not shipped, etc…)?
I tried contacting the seller by asking them for some information about the product, but they never replied, so I don't even know if I can trust them from a communication standpoint.
Thanks so much!

·4 years agoIf you had asked the question a few years ago, I would have answered that the mere fact of paying with PayPal did not fully guarantee it.
Today things have changed... actually, you pay eBay via PayPal, so you're protected twice over.
If you don't receive the item or it arrives not as described (broken, not working, or simply dark gray instead of light gray), you can file a complaint with eBay (within 30 days).
They'll rule in your favor 95% of the time.
For the remaining 5%, you can still file a complaint with PayPal (and there you have a full 180 days).
So I'd say yes... I wouldn't say it's "in a safe place" like on Amazon, but I'd say that (if you play your cards right in case of problems) you're practically 100% covered.

·2 years agoso if I pay with PayPal am I protected?
I'm looking at a product from a seller who has no feedback and I'm a bit worried.
The shop seems to be based in Malta... does the protection still apply?

·2 years agoIf making a purchase with all these worries and uncertainties should make you realize that
your approach is wrong and it’s better to back off. I don’t buy something thinking
about whether I’ll be protected in case I get two used bicycle locks instead of a nice pair
of padded gloves! When there are too many real or perceived uncertainties, I turn the page right away.
But there’s no point persevering. What good is protection to you? If the used locks arrive, you have to
get to work to be refunded, you have to prepare a package for any return, buy
the return label, call the FBI in Quantico, Virginia for the fingerprints...but do you even read
the forum? It’s all endless hassle that has to be worth it before making a purchase.
I only make a move if it’s something worth it, where certainty is 100 and uncertainty is 0.01,
you know what I mean? Keep that in mind! Rushing doesn’t go well with a good outcome.
