Buyer who can't pick up the item
Summary: The discussion concerns a buyer who is having difficulty picking up an item they purchased. affarivintage started the discussion and sika700 replied with further details about the situation. marioelegio also took part in the conversation, potentially offering a solution or further support. The issue remains open while the participants continue to exchange information to resolve the problem.
A zero-feedback buyer bought a book from me for €80 and, as the shipping address, entered FULL NAME c/o Juno-FP eCP:UHVTWWCY, etc., etc. Then he opened a dispute for item not received, even though I sent it by registered mail. He even claims that I already got it back because the tracking shows "returned to sender," even though I haven't received anything. What's more, in private he basically admitted that he had a problem with the pickup point, and as a result the package was sent back. But now eBay has blocked my funds and, in theory, I’m also supposed to resend the book to the recipient (if it comes back to me), taking on yet another expense, only to hope this doesn't happen again! How can I prove to eBay that the buyer is in the wrong and that they need to lift the hold?

Mentore9 months agoHello,
the registered letter cannot be sent to a Fermo Point, as per their regulations; in order to deliver it, it would have had to have the recipient's authorization, which is decidedly impossible.
When you need to send to a Fermo Point, you must use another type of shipment.
Best regards.

OP9 months agoSo how should I behave? It’s a mistake on the buyer’s part, because even though they saw that the only shipping method was registered mail (I only send books that way), they bought the book and demanded that it be sent to an FP. The responsibility for what happened is theirs, not mine
sika700
Mentore9 months agoNo, no... you're wrong, who sent the item?
It was you, so you should have known that registered mail is not compatible with Fermo Point, and if you ship only by registered mail you should not use the Fermo Point service, canceling the option.
Kind regards.

OP9 months agoIn reality, the seller should limit themselves to faithfully carrying out the instructions given by the buyer (and this is for their own protection). If the buyer tells me to ship to an FP, what else could I do? Moreover, this is a buyer with zero feedback, so I think it may make little sense to contact them privately in advance, precisely because they are not familiar with eBay. In any case, I don't know why the post office accepted the shipment. It really shouldn't have taken it in charge if that's how it is

Mentore9 months agoUnfortunately for you, this is considered a sender error.
The package is rejected because the pickup point is not authorized to collect a registered letter.
In these cases, the seller must cancel the sale due to address issues, as provided for by all platforms.

Mentore9 months agoMaybe you didn’t understand... if you offer the Pickup Point option but ship by registered mail, it’s your fault, because you should know that it’s incompatible.
What fault does the buyer have if you offer a service that DOESN’T work??
Also, the Post Office has no responsibility, it can’t know the rules of the Fermo Points, which belong to BRT and not to Poste Italiane!
So... I repeat... the fault lies with whoever ships.
Have a good evening.

OP9 months agoAnd does eBay specify this thing? How can a normal person know it? Unfortunately, I wasn’t born already knowing everything....
sika700
Mentore9 months agoMe neither... I know because I went to read the rules for Fermo Point... if you don't use a service you don't know, all sorts of problems can arise.
Kind regards.

Mentore9 months agoOf course eBay specifies it, nobody is born learned, but many people at least read what it’s about before agreeing to use a new service ... Note: Fermopoint locations do not accept registered mail.
