The buyer asked me to return an item
I didn't set any return rules since I sell everything as brand-new sealed items.
After about a month, the buyer contacts me saying that the material doesn't work once installed and asks for a return. Obviously I can't verify that this is actually the case because, as mentioned, the item purchased was new.
In this case I'm being asked to pay for shipping to have the goods sent back to me and then replace it afterward, meaning I would end up paying for 3 deliveries in total. Or, alternatively, refund the customer without getting anything back.
How should I proceed? Or what would be the best solution?

Mentore3 years agoIf the item is not as described, the easiest way is to accept the return (at your expense) and refund. If you wait for eBay's decision, you will still be forced to refund without getting your item back.
Theoretically, given how you sell the items (new and sealed), they should also be covered by you as a professional seller.
