I’d like to buy a watch from a Japanese seller, and I’d like to understand whether I need to pay customs duties or whether everything is already included in the shipping costs at the time of purchase, because I noticed that for the UK they also show the import charge and its cost, while for others I don’t see this message. I wouldn’t want any surprises. Thanks

Up to 150 euros, you only pay VAT to eBay and any courier fees.

Above 150 euros, you pay customs duties, VAT, and fees directly to the courier.

A watch (with or without a chronograph) in steel with automatic winding has customs code 91022100.00 and is subject to a 4.5% duty For other types of watch you can easily check the TARIC register of the customs agency, the service is accessible to everyone.

So add up the item cost and shipping, then calculate the duty. Then on the total of item, shipping, and duty, calculate the VAT. Finally add the courier fees for customs clearance assistance and for advancing the expenses (this ranges from the 5-10 euros of the postal service to 15-20 euros of other couriers).

As a rough estimate, budget a total of 60-70 euros.
