Purchase with taxes already paid but still being requested.
I bought some records in the USA for a value of $68 plus $18 in taxes and $14 shipping. Once the package arrived, the mail carrier requested an additional €35 in customs duties even though the label on the package said "taxes already paid". So I paid €53 in taxes for a €68 purchase... I wrote to the seller and he says I shouldn't have had to pay anything according to him, and that the problem is eBay or, at most, the post office. Who should I contact to understand why they demanded another €35 in taxes? eBay? The post office? Customs?

Mentore3 years agoIf you can show that you paid VAT twice, eBay will refund the amount it collected.
The procedure has already been tried and it works; all you need is the carrier's receipt clearly showing the VAT payment for the second time.

Mentore3 years agoEbay has nothing to do with it...
For imports from non-EU countries, it is well known that various fees must be paid:
- Italian VAT
- duties, if applicable
- customs charges
- carrier charges
You therefore need to make sure what you paid at the time of ordering (by "taxes" you mean VAT... if you do the math, it would seem so...), so at delivery you paid the rest.
So you do not need to contact anyone, but rather be aware of this for this type of purchase.
