Purchase of an Xbox service subscription with a request to provide my login credentials
Summary: The discussion concerns the purchase of an Xbox service subscription, in which the provision of login credentials is requested. ilnavigante and marioelegio exchange messages about it, but no further details are provided in the content of the thread.
I purchased a 12-month subscription to the XBOX ultimate service. The seller is asking me for the login credentials to my Microsoft account to activate the service (an account that, incidentally, contains personal sensitive data that goes beyond the XBOX service).
Obviously I refused and left negative feedback because I believe the request is not legitimate, let alone the type of sale.
The seller, for his part, says that the wording “digital activation” in the listing was meant to imply that “he would do the activation” and not that he would provide a code (a key which, incidentally, is what other sellers of similar products provide).
I contacted EBay customer service by phone, and they limited themselves to advising me to wait for the delivery deadline to expire, a delivery that will not happen since the seller will never ship anything, as shown in the message exchange.
I’m wondering, apart from the fact that I will NEVER give my credentials to a third party, is it even possible to sell something like this? I believe not.
And what can I do to report behavior that I consider improper and speed up the process without having to wait 20 days?

Mentore1 year agoWith that procedure, it is not allowed to sell them. But it is not allowed to buy them either.
On eBay, only verified professional sellers can sell licenses, subscriptions, etc... with delivery in digital format. That is why abusive sellers use a fake shipment.
If the listing format is not available on the seller's eBay site, items delivered in digital format are not allowed
I do not know Spanish law, but in Italy a private individual cannot trade in this type of product.

You will have to wait until the terms expire.

OP1 year agoMario, first of all thank you for your reply, but I’ve fallen into a vortex that borders on fraud, with eBay customer support being outrageous.
- On the one hand, when I reported the listing they told me it was legal (and therefore your objection would fall apart)
- on the other hand, when I submitted a request for assistance for an item not received, they reply that “it’s my problem that I have to solve on my own” because “they can’t be certain whether the seller gave me what I’m owed or not”, …despite the messages (which I provided) in which the seller himself candidly admits that he didn’t send me anything.
Basically, now I’m left without the product, without my money, and with a big “too bad” even from the people who are supposed to protect me.
I’ve now opened a chargeback case with the payment method, which, from the documentation they asked me for, seems to me like they’re at least carrying out a serious investigation, instead of replying to me as if I were an idiot.
I’ve learned:
don’t buy on eBay and prefer more reliable platforms
and anyway I hope this story can be useful to everyone who reads it, to make them think

Mentore1 year agoThey told you they’re washing their hands of it because products delivered in digital format are excluded from the eBay customer guarantee (because they can’t confirm whether delivery happened or not).
So they don’t even get into the merits of what happened, since it isn’t even covered in their procedures. He shouldn’t have been able to sell it, and you shouldn’t have been able to buy it.
