Smartphone purchase and unusual communication with the seller
Summary: The thread is about buying a smartphone and unusual communications with the seller. maporex raises the issue without explicit details in the messages, and the conversation continues with marioelegio, but no further content or specific solutions are provided.
Good morning, I bought a smartphone on April 23 from a seller shipping from Andorra. I paid with PayPal, and the next day the seller sent me a first GLS tracking code, with which I can see that the shipment has been stuck in Madrid, Spain since April 24. The indicated delivery date is May 7, 2025. In the meantime I asked for clarification about the warranty, and he promptly replied asking me for an email address so he could send me the invoice. He then sent me an invoice that does not show any seller address... and reassured me about the warranty. That left me a bit perplexed. Today I contacted the seller again, asking for information through the appropriate eBay form about the shipment, which still appears to be stuck. The seller sent me a reply but strangely "extra eBay" to the email account linked to eBay... however, the reply does not appear as a response on my eBay profile... In this "extra eBay" reply, besides giving me a new GLS tracking number (something that has never happened: usually tracking follows the shipment from start to finish), he reassures me by saying that the shipment is out for delivery tomorrow 29/04/2025 and also leaves me a couple of links that refer to the possibility of changing the delivery of the shipment, that is, if I want to arrange with the courier to pick it up in person at a pickup point or change the delivery date. I'm starting to suspect that I was scammed. What do you think? The extra eBay communications are making me increasingly think I was scammed.

Although it is within the customs area (so no extra duties or VAT) EU Andorra is not part of it and therefore the invoice follows rules different from ours (here it has no value at all).
As for the warranty, the laws could also be different and so there may well be no 24-month legal warranty. The brand's service centers in the EU may not even recognize the manufacturer's commercial warranty on that phone, since in every respect it comes from a non-EU country.

OP1 year agoGood evening Mario, thank you very much for your feedback. Strangely enough, after my follow-up, the situation on the GLS website also seems to have changed; for the original tracking that started and was stuck in Madrid, the shipment now appears to be at the Sordio HUB in Italy. However, the shipment status on my Ebay profile looks visually worse because it shows it was just "shipped"... all the tracking stops from Madrid to Sordio are still there though... Let's hope for the best.
As for the warranty, I did a very quick search and it seems that it is still covered by a 24-month warranty... in what terms, I don't know. I will ask the seller for more info, also because the invoice sent doesn't have a physical address for the shop or headquarters.
