Item paid for. Seller does not respond to messages
Hi everyone, on Friday I won an auction for an iPhone 13 pro from a user who had no feedback; in any case, before placing a bid I asked for information via messages, so far so good.
Once I had won the item in question, I wrote to the seller again asking him for a bit more information, which he promptly provided, telling me that if I managed to make the payment he would prepare the package.
I make the payment and send him a message asking if he could send the package already on Saturday morning so I would already have the tracking number, but from that moment on I received no more replies.
I send another message on Saturday morning and no reply. A bit annoyed by him ignoring me, I send a message this morning (Sunday) telling him to at least let me know that he had read my messages, otherwise I would be forced to open a dispute.
5 minutes later I get a message from eBay telling me that the item has been shipped with a tracking number. On a Sunday? I check the tracking and nothing shows up.
I ask the seller for an explanation again and he replies “uh, how should I know, this is what they gave me at the post office”
I stay calm and ask him once again kindly to provide me at least the shipping receipt, but nothing, absolute silence.
what can I do in cases like this? Thanks

If the seller shipped it on Saturday, the package leaves on Monday... you do realize that on Saturday and Sunday couriers don’t operate, at least for pickup?
So, if the tracking still doesn’t work tomorrow evening, later on, then you can start worrying...
Anyway, remember that you can’t cancel any order, and until the estimated delivery date has passed you can’t open any claim... hopefully you paid with a method guaranteed by eBay!

OP3 years agoThanks for the reply. I’m calm, it just makes me furious that I ask him simple questions and I’m left hanging.
The weird thing is that as soon as I told him to close the sale, he promptly sent me the tracking number. I know perfectly well that couriers don’t work on Saturdays and Sundays, but it just seems strange to me that he sent it to me in response to a “threat” of closing the deal.
In any case, I paid via PayPal and it seems absurd to me that he would want to screw me over when he knows perfectly well that in this case PayPal protects me and not him.
So if, let’s say, tomorrow the tracking still doesn’t work, would I still not be able to do anything in that case?

Mentore3 years agoYou don't seem that calm to me... five messages sent today, which is Sunday, four of them in 12 minutes, would annoy me too.
I'll repeat my previous reply: "Remember anyway that you can't cancel any order; until the estimated delivery date has passed, you can't open any report..."
Just remember not to let anxiety get the better of you and to open any possible report FIRST on ebay... leave Paypal as the last resort!

Inexperienced or reckless... so you decide whether to ask him for a refund right away or wait for the delivery date.

OP3 years agoJust for the record, the tracking number obviously doesn’t work. Today I called Poste Italiane and they confirmed to me that it is not a shipping code handled by Poste Italiane.
I also called eBay support and they actually confirmed that it could be a fake tracking number.
I wonder what the point is of doing things like this, especially on eBay and especially having paid with PayPal.....

Mentore3 years agoHmm... so... did he send it with tracking or not??
Because if he entered a correct shipping code that later turns out to be delivered... there’ll be hell to pay... not to scare you... but maybe it’s better if you ask for, if you can, a copy of the receipt or the courier used...
