Assistance for a ceramic item arrived destroyed from the UK with Ebay Global Shipping
Hello everyone,
I’m asking for help because it’s the first time I’ve received a broken item and I don’t want to make any mistakes.
The package didn’t have enough padding and the item (a ceramic bowl) was moving around inside, so it arrived broken.
The purchase was made in the UK, payment via Paypal in a single transaction. The Paypal account is linked to postepay.
I took some photos and sent them to the seller; he replied that the shipment is handled by ebay (ebay global shipping) and to ask ebay for a refund.
My doubts are:
- I couldn’t find anything on ebay about damaged items. I only found procedures for returns.
- Is it better to ask ebay for a refund or open a case with paypal?
- Do I still have to send the broken pieces back to the seller in the UK at my own expense? Isn’t it enough to send a photo of the broken bowl? The total cost was 45 pounds, if I ship the pieces I think I’ll spend another 20 euros...
Thanks to anyone who can help me avoid making a mistake,
Andrea

Mentore3 years agoThe responsibility for packaging is anyway the seller's.
Open a return request for item not as described (the broken item is definitely not what you had bought). Return shipping costs will be borne by the seller (if they don't want to spend money to take back a broken plate, they can choose to waive the return).
First use eBay's return procedure and keep PayPal only in case of problems with eBay.

OP3 years agothanks for the info.
I contacted an eBay representative who showed me the exact steps to follow.
You need to open a return request, but then select the case of “item damaged in shipping”, and attach photos of the box and the broken item; this was enough for the refund to be approved, which in the end seems will be covered by the eBay Global Shipping Program (which takes responsibility for these cases) and the seller won’t lose the sale.
Since the representative checked everything without any problems, there’s no need to send the “broken pieces” back.
He told me that if, on the other hand, the shipment had been sent directly by the seller with another carrier, things would have been more complicated.
Thanks again
Andrea
