Lost auction despite having a higher maximum bid

I took part in an auction. The price was 4.50 euros. In the last 15 seconds another seller bid 4.60. Then I bid 5.00 euros with an automatic bid setting of 12 euros. Then a third participant bid 5.50 a few seconds after me (maybe automatically??). At that point the auction ended and the last participant won the item for 5.50 euros. It shouldn’t have ended like that because eBay should have automatically raised the bid in my favor. And even if another participant had entered a maximum bid higher than mine, the item should have gone at least up to surpass my maximum bid of 12 euros. Can someone please explain this to me?

Mentore1 year agoSomething doesn’t add up, e.g. after 4.60 there couldn’t have been 5.00 with an automatic bid at 12.00
In the listing, next to the amount it was awarded for, there’s the bid history. Click on it and you’ll see all the bids (including the automatic ones) with date and time. That way you should be able to reconstruct what happened.
