Auction won but deal closed

Good evening everyone

I would have won an auction fairly, but the seller prevented me from paying, saying that he couldn't sell me the item because it was missing a piece. In the photo, it was clearly visible that a piece was missing, but I had decided to buy it anyway. Can a seller close an auction after it has been won without notifying the buyer?

The seller can cancel the sale... so yes, if eBay allows it, they can.
