Watch out for VAT... from Italy!!!
You always learn something... I bought a used item from the province of Novara (as far as I know it's still in Italy). That was the only thing indicated by the listing...
I find myself charged 22% VAT, so I try to figure out with customer support since when Italy/Italy C2C transactions are subject to VAT. After several pointless rounds, it turns out the seller is registered in a special zone (I don't know which one, because of "privacy" they won't tell me), from where VAT is imposed (so they tell me, on trust...). But I had no way of knowing any of this BEFORE the purchase, since it doesn't show up in the listing, but only a country, completely normal, in the province of Novara.
Leaving aside how they apply the TU (if the goods are in Italy, where the seller registered on Ebay is irrelevant for VAT purposes), how is a user supposed to know these things if the listing shows the origin as ITALY???

Mentore3 years agoIt is probably a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), that is a geographic region with economic legislation different from the legislation in force in the country it belongs to.
In these areas, the possibility of derogating from the laws in force within the ordinary national policies is guaranteed.
In Italy, in fact, there are several.

Mentore3 years agoIn B2C, what matters is not where the goods are located, but only the seller’s registered office. If you bought from a Chinese seller who relies on various logistics centers: Trecate (NO), Volpiano (TO), Formello (RM), etc.... it’s as if you had bought in China and you pay VAT, customs duties, etc....
In C2C, this scenario could only occur in the case of a purchase from an extraterritorial site (e.g.: NATO base in Cameri).
