Camera battery sold as compatible, but it's not
Hello,
I bought a UNIROSS battery for a SONY NPBG1 camera (receipt 9.12.2023) because I decided to put a SONY DSC-W300 camera up for sale on subito.it, whose original battery held a charge poorly, and to avoid making a bad impression with a potential buyer I decided to include a new battery still in its blister pack.
Yesterday (about 3 months after the purchase) a buyer contacts me and asks me to show him (rightly) the camera turned on and working before proceeding with the purchase.
I unbox the battery I bought, but although the display shows it as fully charged, after about ten seconds this message appears on the display:
USE ONLY COMPATIBLE BATTERIES ...and the camera turns off!
I WRITE TO THE SELLER WHO REPLIES TO ME LIKE THIS: Some Sony cameras check that the battery used is original and refuse to work otherwise. Unfortunately, with your camera you must use ONLY original batteries
I REPLY: Oh, great...
And why are you only telling me now?
I trusted what is still stated in the listing here on ebay (see screenshot just taken).
I am not used to opening disputes here on ebay, I understand they are not welcome, but please find an alternative solution... Besides, I now notice that recently someone else had my same problem with the same purchase. How did you solve it in this case?
HIM: Unfortunately, the problem often depends on the camera's own firmware. With a first-generation firmware the camera has no problems.
ME: Let's not kid ourselves, please.
I have just contacted ebay support by phone to report what happened: they told me to wait 24 hours and then let them know how it went.
As I keep saying, I would not intend to create trouble for anyone and I once again ask you to find a reasonable solution.
HIM: I don't want to be pedantic, but in the camera manual (which I do not have) it should say to use ONLY original batteries. In any case, I will refund you right away.
ME: As an alternative to a refund, would it be possible to get a battery that is actually suitable for the camera, even paying the difference?
HIM: Unfortunately Sony no longer makes that battery.
I can't find your purchase, when was it made?
ME: As I already wrote above, the receipt is dated 9.12.2023
HIM: Unfortunately, since more than a month has passed, we are well beyond the refund limit.
ME: So this is what I should report to ebay?
HIM: exactly
And so I contact an ebay operator for the second time, who suggests that I file a report. Which I have just done, mainly so that they at least make him modify the listing and no one else falls into the trap (like the one who left him negative feedback for the same battery).
Now, I’m sorry about what happened, I understand that when you're working mistakes can happen too, but what annoys me is that the listing still says the battery is compatible with a whole series of cameras even though he knows full well that it isn't (he wrote that himself...).
He doesn't want to refund the 12.90 euros because more than a month has passed... oh well... everyone can keep their own medicine... if you really want to give money to someone, there are plenty of ways, don’t you think?
And anyway... we’ll see what ebay does...

Mentore2 years agoOn eBay it's too late, but you still have time to turn to PayPal's dispute payment method (6 months) or chargeback with your bank's help (one year).
