Sealed CD, never used, bought by mistake
Summary: A participant, blufruit75, mentioned having a sealed CD that has never been used and was bought by mistake.
Hi everyone, I’d like your opinion on a situation that happened to me with a recent sale.
I put a still-sealed double CD up for sale. I had bought it a while ago and, thinking I didn’t already have it in my collection, I bought it again. When I got home I discovered I already had it, so I decided to sell it on eBay. I described the item as accurately as possible and also used eBay’s automatic valuation to set a competitive price, lower than the current value.
After the sale, the buyer wrote to me claiming that:
the seal was “DIY”,
the first CD had signs of wear scratches,
the opening track would skip on all of his systems.
I explained how I had bought it and why it was still sealed. I also suggested he try the CD on other players, but he confirmed that the problem happens everywhere. Shortly after, I saw that he had opened a dispute, so to avoid any arguments I refunded him immediately and now I’m waiting for the item to be returned.
My question is: when the CD comes back, can I relist it after checking it? Of course I’ll personally verify whether the defect he reported actually exists. I’d like to understand what the correct course of action is according to the platform’s rules and best practices.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice.
