I’m asking for clarification on customs duties and shipping charges from Japan
Summary: mir_617267 asked for clarification on customs duties and shipping charges from Japan. marioelegio replied, but the recorded messages do not contain any further details.
Hello!
I need help and some clarification about an order I intend to place on eBay, where the seller operates from Japan. The value of the item (a bag) that I intend to buy is about €145. When I go to checkout, VAT is added, obviously bringing the amount I will have to pay to more than €150. From the note, it says that no additional customs fees are expected and shipping is free with Expedited International Shipping (FedEx or DHL, probably). So will I have to pay additional charges once I receive the package, or have I already paid everything?

Mentore8 months agoIf the total for the item plus shipping is less than 150 euros, you only have to pay VAT, and you pay it to eBay.
If the customs declaration is filled out correctly, you shouldn’t have to pay anything upon delivery. If they should ask you for the VAT again, you’ll have to pay it and ask for a receipt. With the receipt, you can request a refund of the amount paid to eBay.
If the total exceeds 150 euros, you’ll have to pay the duties, VAT, and fees directly to the courier.

OP8 months agoThe value of the item/listing is about €146, shipping is supposed to be free. Only when I go to checkout, of course, it jumps to well over €150 because VAT is added. So I should be fine and, if everything is handled correctly, not have to pay any additional charges? Not even pay the courier, for example

Mentore8 months agoThe customs documentation must specify that VAT has been paid.
If there are any problems, this is the procedure for requesting a VAT refund. https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/paying-items/pagare-le-imposte-sugli-acquisti-ebay?id=4771
