How can I avoid paying VAT twice?
Hi guys,
Soon I’ll be making a purchase from the United States with a cost not exceeding 150 euros including shipping costs. I’ve read posts where someone complained about having paid VAT twice.
How can I avoid this happening right from the start?

if you don't pay it right away, you're sure not to pay it twice... but if you pay it in advance, no one can guarantee that you won't pay it again.
If you are charged a second time, have the carrier issue you the payment receipt and with that you can ask ebay for a refund.
But be careful not to confuse VAT with customs fees and the carrier's charges.

OP3 years agoThank you for the response. How can I avoid paying it right away at the time of purchase so that when the courier comes, I can pay him directly?

Mentore3 years agoYou can’t choose, ebay is required to collect VAT in advance on certain amounts. If all the paperwork is correct, the carrier should not ask you for it a second time. In any case, as Sika said, ebay is willing to refund the amount paid to it (by showing the receipt for the amount paid to the courier).
For customs fees, it ranges from 5 to 25 euros (depending on the value of the goods and the courier).

Mentore3 years agoYou can't do it yourself.... it's the seller who has to do it by communicating a specific code in the customs declaration.
In any case, I would always ask the courier for the receipt, so as to immediately verify what you will be charged.
