As a seller, how should I behave?
Hello everyone,
I want to make it clear that it’s not the €17.40 auction price that this buyer won for a MoBo AM2 + Athlon 64x2 5000+ CPU and CPU cooler, all to be tested and sold as not working or for parts, that unsettles me, but rather the behavior this buyer has shown throughout this whole situation. My listing is an auction for a non-working bundle to be tested: an Asus AM2+ MoBo (the one I’m not sure works because I couldn’t test it), plus an Athlon 64x2 5000+ processor and the Asus CPU fan, all taken from a PC stripped for parts. The auction started at €5.40 with €12.00 shipping and no returns were accepted. The package was well sealed, with the components well protected with multiple layers of bubble wrap and reinforcements on the sides of the box to prevent crushing. I’ve shipped plenty of other electronic components and have never had any problems. After a series of proposals while the auction was running, an option I had not included, for him to pay only €10 then €15 via PayPal before the auction ended, of which he was the only bidder, the buyer kept making various requests for other MoBo brands, saying he needed to test processors and that it absolutely had to be an AM2+, I also suggested that he wait to place a bid because in a few days I was going to get a working AM2+ PC and at most I could offer it for sale after checking it. The buyer, with continuous messages full of requests and non-requests, kept going his own way and when the auction expired he again tried to propose an external €15 PayPal transaction to close the auction and win it. He won the auction and paid after 2 days; I did the tracking immediately and sent a copy to the buyer, who received the package a full 5 days before the date set by eBay. I personally know the SDA courier who picks up at my house and when he sees there are pickups at my address he always comes right away. The customer says he did not receive the package personally, that it was thrown by the SDA courier into his courtyard and that the package was damaged; he did not take photos to document the damage, and he said he would open the package the next day, test the components, and if they did not work he would ask me for a refund. Then he started demanding a refund of €10, always completely outside the eBay context, saying that I should have reported it and asked PayPal or Poste Italiane for a refund because the shipment arrived damaged (all without any photographic proof of the damage). According to him, eBay does nothing and the only way to get a refund is to act through PayPal. I reported the buyer to eBay, even though in the reporting system there is no real seller report for a package damaged upon delivery to the recipient.
How would you deal with this?

Mentore3 years agoHello,
if the buyer has opened a return request on eBay, you have few options, accept the return and arrange the shipment in a way that minimizes financial losses.
If instead they opened a claim on PayPal, accept the return... the buyer will then handle the shipping; if possible, they should send it back to you.
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoHello sika,
the buyer did not mention eBay at all, neither as a damage report nor as a return request (their words, they say eBay does nothing).
As for PayPal, they are saying to open a dispute for a damaged package, but for the moment I have not received any report from PayPal, and they do not mention returning the package in any way.
They just keep suggesting that I make a €10 refund on PayPal, all outside the eBay platform, or that I file a damage claim myself with PayPal or Poste Italiane without giving me anything to verify the actual damage that occurred. And I repeat that I don’t care about the €17.40 amount, but I do care about understanding whether this person is trying to scam me.

Mentore3 years agoObviously he's trying to be clever... don't refund anything outside of eBay... you could end up refunding him twice if he then opens a dispute.
If all the communications took place on eBay messaging, in the event of negative feedback you'll have proof of an attempted scam and the review will be removed.
Don't worry too much and see how the situation develops.
Kind regards.
