Payment dispute opened since January 2024 for an item that was duly delivered
Hello
I sold an item in Switzerland to a user with only one feedback;
The item was regularly delivered and I also received the customs documentation.
after a few days from receipt, a payment dispute is opened with the banking institution, to which I respond by providing the GLS tracking number.
as of today the dispute is still open, the funds are blocked and the item delivered.
I wonder:
- why do I have to answer for a banking issue if the buyer paid eBay directly?
- how is it possible that we have to wait all this time and there isn't even a final deadline for resolution?
- if this were a scam (it's easy to have an item delivered and open a payment dispute) why should the seller be held responsible, given that, I remember, they do not receive the payment directly?
I am honestly shocked by this eBay policy, which certainly does not encourage sellers to promote their products on the platform.

OP2 years agoIt shouldn’t be like this: if eBay receives the payment and takes a few days to transfer the amount to the seller, keeping its fee, it should also handle and respond to any issues that arise. Also because in this way the seller can’t deal directly with the financial institution (in my case it was PayPal and not a credit card) and to resolve a claim for an item not received with PayPal it only takes a few minutes, simply by entering the tracking number, not 8 weeks or more.

Mentore2 years agoThis is a standard policy for all remote transactions where it is possible to pay by credit card.
Card issuers allow 12-13 months to dispute (with proof of the problem attached) the payment for an item not received or an item not as described. If the credit card company charges back against ebay, ebay charges back against the seller.
