Banking institution controversy
Hi, yesterday a dispute was opened against me for an item I sold, but specifically, not shipped after more than 3 months from the purchase.
I did not ship the item by my own choice, but in my sale listing pickup in person was specified.
The buyer purchased my product on August 13, 2023 (from a different city than mine), and right away I contacted him to tell him that if he wanted to pick it up in person, I would be available starting around September 1 (in my city though), but I got no response.
After about a week I contacted him again and suggested sending the code (we're talking about a digital steam card) via eBay messages, but I didn't receive a response to that message either.
About 3 days later I sent him another message asking whether it was okay for him to receive the product via eBay messages, but once again there was no response.
At that point I decided to contact eBay customer service and I was explicitly told that the buyer would have 40 days (if I remember correctly) to open an eBay dispute, after which the money would be mine and that would be that.
To this day, exactly 95 days later, a dispute has been opened against me, unfair in my opinion, since I had always been willing to send the code to the buyer, but I never received any response.
Do you think that without shipping codes or anything else, but only eBay messages that prove my "willingness" to give the item to the buyer even via eBay messages, I could win the dispute?
I'm pretty disappointed about this, especially because I had made peace with it, thinking that by now I could consider those funds truly mine, especially after the phone call with eBay.
In any case, as I also told eBay support now, I am obviously willing to send the code to the buyer but less willing to issue this refund honestly. I see it as taking the piss

Mentore2 years agoWith all due respect, you sold an item, you received the payment, and you deliberately kept the item, because, according to you, the buyer didn’t show up to pick it up?
You know that in any case the item belongs to him, and so you could be reported for misappropriation?
You should have refunded him and that would have been the end of it.
So the dispute is the least that can happen to you, as it should be.
Refund the buyer without dragging this out... as it should be... because, besides the fact that the sale of digital codes is prohibited for private individuals, you would have no way of proving your case if you can’t demonstrate shipment, which would be absurd to do now.
Kind regards.

Mentore2 years agoBy cancelling the sale, the refund is immediate, you could do it within 30 days of the sale.
