Suspicious behavior (Buyer pickup in the area)
Hello, I'm writing on the forum for the first time, so I apologize in advance if I've made any mistakes (off topic, etc.)
For the second time, I've come across the following situation, which seems quite strange to me:
-I list an item for sale with only the option of local pickup
-The buyer purchases and pays for it, but as shown in the screenshot, they don't reply and don't say when or if they intend to pick up the item.
- The buyer and the recipient are two different people, moreover with strange names that seem fake.
-The buyer has recently registered on eBay and has 0 feedback.
Can someone explain whether this practice is an attempt at fraud or something else? What would the purpose be?
This had already happened to me before with a guitar, same exact situation: I proceeded with the refund and, once it was done, I blocked the user. Did I do everything correctly? Should I act the same way.

You’ve been paid, the listing was clear and the text also specified that it was available for local pickup only. Now the item is theirs, treat it with care and wait to hear back from them.
As for the recipient, that’s not your problem, since you don’t have to ship it. Anyway, you can enter any destination address (on the eBay account), even one different from the place of residence.

OP3 years agoSorry, but honestly it doesn’t add up at all to me; there’s no way a user from another distant region would pay blindly for an item without first asking for info and then not get in touch. Especially since all the profiles were created a month ago and have zero feedback.
Since this has happened to me more than once, I seem to understand that it’s a common practice, and that there’s something behind it even if I can’t figure out what.

Then at most what could happen, that you're forced to refund him? Paying and getting a refund just to make you lose 35 cents?
If the addresses are from another region, it's likely someone who only saw the title and price and didn't read the listing at all.
In a few days he'll wake up and ask for a refund for an item not received.
