Question about scam prevention by a buyer
Hello, I started selling only recently and a few days ago I posted an ad for a collectible item at around 295 euros. A little while ago I got an offer from a buyer to buy it for 90 cents less, and so I, a bit puzzled, accepted. Shortly after, I go into his account and see that as his profile picture he has a line saying to look at his profile information. Reading the information, it’s already clear that something doesn’t add up: in the description he has a kind of message addressed to I don’t know who, which says verbatim:
"thanks I am interested in the item, kindly accept the offer, I have to give it to my cousin in Milan. Before proceeding with payment I would like you to send me more photos of the item to my email address (his email address) or telegram (his telegram). Then I will also give you a 30 euro gift for shipping costs."
All this written in the profile information, NOT in my private messages, so I’m wondering who this person is, since it’s very similar to the usual scammer or bot stereotype.
That said, he did still make the payment after I accepted his offer, and so I have the money in the eBay account. At this moment I’m in limbo and, not being an expert and having only just started, I don’t know what to do; I’m afraid he might be yet another scammer on this platform, and some threads opened by other community members aren’t helping, making my fear about whether to ship it or not even worse.
As a last thing, I wrote to him privately saying that I accepted his offer and it will be shipped, to see whether he would reply or not.

OP2 years agoAh, not yet, I had misread the message that my item had been sold, sorry, I’m new and I don’t really know how things work.
The fact is that he still has to complete the payment, and he’ll probably never complete it. If he hasn’t completed anything by tomorrow evening, I’ll cancel the order and that’s that.
