Hello everyone and good evening. As per the subject, I wanted to ask for some clarification: on Thursday (3/07) I shipped a car spare part. A little while ago, however, the buyer opened a return request with the reason “ordered by mistake” (adding, in the return details, explicitly “I made a mistake with the order”). Now, considering that the package has obviously already been shipped and that, moreover, I had free shipping (so at my expense), how should I deal with this? It’s the first time something like this has happened to me (not a return, but a return of a product sold before it had even arrived and, moreover, with that reason, i.e. basically a mistake in the purchase). I should point out that I am not a professional seller and the listing stated that I did not accept returns. I’d also add that, having shipped the package and considering the risks involved with shipping, etc. (i.e. packages that can be lost, etc.), I still run a risk, because if the package were to get lost on the way there or back (in the event I accepted the return), who would reimburse me? (also because I only have standard protection applied to the package, so it would cover only part of the amount/value of the product, specifically less than half, and the product is still worth quite a lot, certainly not a few euros). I was therefore thinking of issuing a partial refund and closing the matter that way, but in that case, what consequences would there be (for example in legal terms, apart from eBay I mean, but also, of course, related specifically to eBay and its rules)? Or, alternatively, should I accept the return but ask the buyer to reimburse me for the shipping costs incurred (and therefore they would have to bear the cost of that reimbursement as well as that of the return label). In that case, can I agree with them so that this reimbursement is made outside eBay (for example via bank transfer, PayPal, etc.) or does the transaction always have to take place through eBay? What do you recommend? Thanks.
