How long do I have to wait before I can relist an item that was returned to the sender?
Hi everyone, my question is simple: after how long can I put an item back up for sale if it’s come back to me?
I only ship by registered mail now; it costs a little more, but at least I’m sure it gets to its destination.
Basically, I sold an item, I pack the parcel, ship it, give the tracking code to the recipient, and after a month it comes back to me with “recipient unknown” written on it.
Of course I contact the buyer right away to let them know and ask if the delivery details were correct; they reply that everything is fine.
I ask the postman how to proceed, he gives me the whole procedure and I pass it on to the buyer, who however no longer gets back to me, and this has been the case since June.
do you think I can put the item back up for sale?

Mentore2 years agoIf the item has been paid for and you have never issued a refund, that item is no longer yours and you can’t sell it (you’re only its custodian). If the buyer notices, they’ll report you (rightly) for misappropriation.
You can notify the buyer via an eBay message that if they don’t give you instructions on what to do within 15 days, you will dispose of it (you free yourself from the obligation to keep it, but you do not acquire ownership of it). Or you can refund the buyer, regain ownership of the item, and only then put it back up for sale.
