Ebay doesn't let me change the address in my personal profile

Good evening everyone and thanks in advance for any help you can give me. In my personal profile, I tried to change my email address. It won’t let me do it, because it says it’s already being used by another user. I called Ebay support, and they advised me to add a dot or something else to the new email address to make it different.
