Error when switching to a professional seller
EBAY asked me to switch my account to a professional seller.
When I do the switch and confirm my details, an error appears, the message is:
"An error occurred. Try again later"
EBAY support doesn't seem able to do anything.
Has this ever happened to you?

OP1 year agobut is this reply of yours actually a useful and solution-oriented answer to the technical issue I raised?

Mentore1 year agoDefinitely not, but this is a free forum, where everyone can express their opinion as long as it isn't offensive; I'll then wait for your useful and decisive answers (to other people's problems though, not your own).

Mentore1 year agoOf course, if you filled everything in with “X”...
Also remember that a professional account also requires a VAT number.
Have a good day.

OP1 year agoObviously there were no X's but the real data (masked here for privacy), moreover as a sole proprietorship EBAY tells me that a VAT number is not needed.

Mentore1 year agoA sole proprietorship without a VAT number??
You’re kidding, right??
That’s like saying an illegal pizzeria... same thing...

OP1 year agoNo, seriously, maybe you should read the EBAY manual before replying

Mentore1 year agoThe problem is not ebay but the tax authorities.
For the latter, the seller who carries out professional activity must have a VAT number etc…. even if it is a sole proprietor.

OP1 year agoI'm not dealing with tax or corporate law issues; I'd like to go back to my very simple original question: have you ever tried switching to an individual professional user (the one for which EBAY doesn't ask for any VAT number)? were you able to do it, or did it give you an error?
Thanks

Mentore1 year agoThis forum sometimes brings out users with naivety that is nothing short of alarming!
In the "manual" you attached and that we know very well, show me where the words "VAT number" appear...
You won't find it... and you know why?
Because every ordinary person knows that sole proprietors, companies, and other forms of business activity HAVE a VAT number... so it's a basic, obvious fact.
Now you're simply clinging to this "thing" because it suits you... but know that you're going to get hurt, very badly, if you do business without a VAT number.
So, as for your question, since there are no sole proprietorships without a VAT number, it's obvious and normal that it gives you an error.
Have a good evening.

Mentore1 year agoRegistration with the REA is done through the ComUnica procedure that you need to fill out and submit when you open your business and it allows you to do the following at the same time:

OP1 year agoI’d like to separate once again the aspect of laws and corporate law from the technological aspect.
I’m well aware of what you mention above regarding Italian regulations (I’ve opened companies in Italy several times) but what I don’t understand is what you imply in your statements:
1. EBAY tells you that you can do something (see manual)
2. EBAY gives you a choice through some options (there are two when you convert from ordinary user to professional)
3. if you choose one of the two choices EBAY errors out because the one you chose is not legally doable but the error the application gives you is "TRY AGAIN LATER"
If the problem were regulatory and not technical, wouldn’t EBAY have been better off not giving you this option or writing YOU CAN’T DO THIS?
Don’t you think your thesis is a bit too complex?

Mentore1 year agoMaybe you don't understand because you don't want to understand... that's a very different thing!
Ebay is a global marketplace and as such has its own internal rules, but that doesn't exempt anyone from violating the laws of the country they live in, something ebay can't make you comply with because that's up to you... ebay doesn't have to tell you that!
The point in my opinion is another one: do you buy specifically to resell and are your sales regular?
You need to open a VAT number, that's what Italian law says... ebay doesn't have to tell you, but you have to be smart enough to understand it yourself.
So, if you open a professional account, you need a VAT number... did you understand?
