eBay's international returns management
Summary: fknight1975, an Italian professional seller on eBay, expressed frustration about eBay's return policies, which favor American consumers and are disadvantageous for sellers outside the USA. They shared an experience where they felt coerced into accepting and paying for an expensive return from an American buyer, receiving little support from eBay's customer service, which was described as ineffective. fknight1975 criticized the international return process as "absurd and inconclusive," suggesting it heavily relies on trust and leaves sellers in a vulnerable position.
Good morning everyone, I am an Italian professional seller who sells mostly to American customers, and for some time now I have realized how eBay, born in America, protects consumers in the United States at the expense of the rest of the world..
I understand that it is a site that was created in America, but you can’t have procedures like the returns process that penalize all other countries except America.
thanks to God I have only had two cases, including today, with people who want at all costs to return the item, and I have realized that it is possibly a real legalized scam.
the procedure seems simple but it is anything but simple.
first of all, you are almost always forced to accept the return. (and there we could already talk about it)
secondly, oops, you can’t provide a return label from America to Italy...???????? and there you already ask yourself, excuse me, if packlink provides me with UPS labels and if they, Americans using eBay shipping, ship with UPS, there must be something wrong????
unfortunately EBAY turns a deaf ear.. it doesn’t listen.. it doesn’t care.. and so you get caught up in the vortex of the fantastic chats.. even before with the dear Albanians it was tough.. now that they don’t even talk to you it’s practically a lost cause.. they bounce you back and forth for hours.. and obviously they don’t give you a solution.. they told me, don’t worry sir, eBay provides the return label to the customer..
too bad that instead I had to pay via PayPal.. hoping that this won’t scam you.. the shipping money, which of course costs a hell of a lot more than if I bought an item from an American.
And so, simply, European sellers, hope you never have to deal with return requests from America, otherwise you’ll be screwed over twice, as we say in Italy-
BUT I say, and they even ask you how happy you are with eBay’s return process... well, here’s the answer, ZERO FLAT ZERO... and the new chat system with Albanians..ZERO DOUBLE FLAT ZERO.
working in e-commerce with eBay is really getting worse, and I’m sorry if their intention is to lose customers.. they’re really forcing us to find other sales platforms.
and I say this as a professional seller.. who as such has absolutely no advantage, quite the opposite..
Sorry for the rant.. which I hope you share.. eBay returns procedure ABSURD AND UNPRODUCTIVE.. all based on the trust you have to place in giving money to an American customer to send the goods back.. can we even believe that? and where would the eBay service be,..???

Mentore1 week agoGood evening,
Sorry about what happened, but maybe it should be specified that ebay is not an e-commerce site but only a marketplace that makes you very visible, which is why you always need to pay attention to where you want to sell.
In my experience... when I was selling... I had decided to do it only in Italy, already enough headaches... let alone also abroad and non-EU countries.
In any case, as a professional, you are obliged to accept returns even on other platforms, so you would only be shifting the problem.
Kind regards.
