I bought an item in the United States, and I had to pay VAT on the shipping costs too
it doesn't seem right to me to pay VAT also on shipping costs and since, as I seem to have understood, the fee is taken in full by Ebay, it doesn't seem right at all.
basically I bought a coaster for the price of $5 plus $10 shipping plus $3.3 VAT for a total of $18.30.
this will be one more reason to stop taking part in Ebay auctions

Mentore3 years agoThe contribution is collected by ebay on behalf of the Italian state according to EU regulations. Since 1/7/2021 it applies to any item regardless of its value and the reason why it is imported.
For every item imported into an EU country, the VAT of the destination country must be applied, then there may also be customs duties (for amounts over 150 euros) and courier fees to be paid upon receipt of the goods.
If the payment is a single one, the VAT is applied to the total. As you can see, it does not depend on ebay, you would pay the same taxes on any marketplace.
