I lost an auction because of a bid that came in after the closing time
Hello everyone, I took part in an auction by placing an automatic bid, but in the end I lost. Afterwards, out of curiosity, I went to check the bid history (the "Bid time" field) and it clearly says that the bid that "beat" mine, by a few pennies, was placed 40 seconds after the auction’s closing time. Has this happened to anyone else? How is that possible? I’d been looking for the item for quite a long time ...and I’m wondering whether there’s anything I can do to recover the award of the item.

OP3 years agoI’m attaching the screenshot of the bid history. I deleted some info for privacy.
At the auction closing time, that is 22:00, my bid was winning (I had set up automatic bidding) and it stayed that way until 22:00:40.
I also asked eBay customer support..they replied that they don’t see any anomalies and that the person who won the auction had automatic bidding enabled and may have placed the bid at the last second.
From the history I’m attaching, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
So my question is ...why, if I’m the winner at the auction closing time, does eBay accept bids that keep “working” even after the closing time? So how should I/we handle this in the future?
thanks

Mentore3 years agoIn auction closing times, the seconds are never shown (you can check any other online auction)... so the actual closing time is understood to be between seconds 01 and 59 of the indicated minute... and the time of the last bid proves it.
Different if the auction end is indicated at 22:00 and the last bid came in at 22:02...
Kind regards.

Mentore3 years agoI think it is definitely impossible... maybe it would be a good idea to carefully check the auction end time.
Kind regards.
