Does the auction management system have a bug?
Today an auction ended, and I didn’t win it.
A few seconds before it closed, I had placed a bid to beat the last offer; it was 18:11. After a moment I was told that my bid had been outbid, and I didn’t have time to bid again because time had run out. Fair enough.
But what I found out afterward is that the user who won the auction won with my EXACT same amount, and the time of their bid would be a full 6 minutes earlier than mine, which is impossible, because I had outbid their offer by €1.50 just seconds before the auction closed. Can someone explain to me how something like this is possible?
The bidding system has several other bugs, for example if in the bid history I click on "show automatic bids" my bids are grayed out, when they absolutely were not automatic!
I’m not attaching the screenshot because there’s some sensitive data, but I’ll show it to customer support.

OP2 years agoThanks for the links, but I’ve been a user since 2008 and I know how the automatic bidding system works.
Customer support has taken the issue in hand and they will carry out some checks.

OP2 years agoPlease read what I already highlighted. If at 10:54 he had placed an automatic bid of €8 to outbid the previous offer of €7, how could I have offered €8 at 17:38?

Long story short, if you had bid €13.01, you would have won.

OP2 years agoUhm, that doesn’t convince me much... He had bid less and for a while I had the highest bid, I saw it.
Looking back at the bid log, there are some absurdities with the times, see below. He bids the same amount as me with timestamps earlier than mine (by several hours too) and outbids me. Yet it all happened within a few minutes (at 17:38 my first bid, which is when I logged in and followed what was happening).
To me this is a bug. And you can’t even say that the time they show for him is the time when he set his automatic bidding limit, because if, for example, he had bid €8 at 10:54 then he would have immediately outbid the first user (5***1) who had bid €7 at 10:04

Mentore2 years agoYou surpassed his automatic bid at 14:40 at 18:03 and then the other person renewed it at 18:05, having entered the same bid as yours, which he had placed before you and therefore won.
It’s very easy to understand, no bug.
