Unable to submit a new partial refund request
Summary: The discussion concerns the difficulty of making a new partial refund proposal, with various participants trying to solve the problem without providing specific details in their exchange. thatsrux initially raised the issue, receiving responses from marioelegio and sika700, but the conversation does not seem to have reached a definitive solution.
I recently sold a laptop that wasn’t mine. Even though I had posted all the photos of the PC parts in the listing, I hadn’t noticed a few scratches and minor defects, so I didn’t post detailed photos of the flaws or write about them in the description. The buyer rightly points out that the PC has defects and asks for a return. At first I offer him 30 euros as a partial refund so he can keep the PC, and he refuses. Later we negotiate in eBay chat and agree on a 50 euro partial refund out of the total 200 euro purchase. In all this, I can’t make a new partial refund offer through eBay (since the first one was refused, I suppose), nor can I close the return to send the agreed 50 euros via PayPal or other services. I think the matter could be easily resolved if the buyer canceled the return request and then received the 50 euros partial refund. However, the buyer keeps insisting that he can’t cancel the return request from his side.
I ask you: is it possible that he doesn’t have the option to cancel the return request? To me it seems more like an excuse to stall and get eBay involved in the dispute (and try to screw me over somehow)

Mentore1 year agoBefore eBay gets involved... otherwise you'll lose money and the item... and since you can't send two partial refund offers, accept the return, provide the label and everything will be in the buyer's hands... if they don't ship it, you'll come out on top... if they do ship it, you'll get your laptop back.
Kind regards.

OP1 year agoIf eBay were to step in, would they side directly with the buyer? I'm talking privately on eBay with the buyer, who rightly says he doesn't want any trouble with eBay since he also makes many sales on the site from his account. If eBay intervened, would they ask him first what the situation is, or would they side with him no matter what?

Mentore1 year agoYou need to understand why eBay steps in... if you do nothing and let the deadline pass, the buyer wins.
If you accept the return and provide the label, and the buyer doesn't ship it and the shipping deadline passes, you win.
Have a nice evening.

Mentore1 year agoIf the buyer closes the return request, it puts it in your hands.
If you refund him before he closes the return, you put it in his hands.
Hard to get out of this stalemate.
