VAT on item from the United States
In a recent transaction to buy an item from the USA, at the time of payment I was immediately charged VAT of $34.29. When the package was delivered, the courier, in order to hand it over to me, demanded another €36.72 as VAT; if I hadn't paid, he wouldn't have delivered it! I wasn't at home and my daughter paid, thinking she was doing the right thing. QUESTION: why did I have to pay VAT twice???

Mentore3 years agoIf you actually paid VAT twice and you have the invoice as proof of the second payment, you can ask eBay for a refund of the amount overpaid.

Mentore3 years agoIf you paid almost €35 in VAT, it means the item was worth more than €150, so upon delivery you paid the duties, customs charges, and the carrier’s fees.
Check carefully the invoice issued to you by the freight forwarder.
Kind regards.
