The post office is asking me for VAT even though I already paid it
After a purchase here on eBay from Qatar, Italian Post is asking me for customs duties and VAT even though I had already paid them here on eBay, also because it's the same amount I already paid, 1/3 of the value.

Mentore1 year agoVAT is collected by eBay only when the total is less than 150 euros, so only in the range where customs duties aren’t paid. If they’re really asking you for customs duties, then you haven’t paid the VAT.
If, on the other hand, the post office is generally asking you for customs charges (which include VAT and duties) and the value of the item and shipping is less than 150 euros, then they’re only asking you for VAT.
Most likely the seller didn’t include the document proving that VAT has already been paid and you’ll have to pay it again, but make sure they give you a receipt (refuse to pay in cash and insist on the receipt at the post office). Only with that receipt can you ask eBay for a refund of the amount overpaid .....

Don’t refuse to accept the package, otherwise you’ll lose both the money and the item.

OP1 year agoThanks, yes, the cost is just under 150 euros. Yes, of course today I didn’t pay anything to the postman and he gave me the slip. So you recommend that I pay at the post office and ask eBay for a refund later?
