Goods Rejected by a Buyer without reason

Good morning,

I’ve just received a message from a customer informing me that they no longer want the order.

Reason?

Another courier, probably a repeat offender, didn’t give them time to pick up the goods and left.

Now how am I supposed to handle this, given that the buyer told me they will refuse all future deliveries out of principle?

Should I have to eat the shipping costs because of a misunderstanding between the courier and the buyer?

Am I protected by Ebay in a situation like this even if the item in question has “free shipping”?

You're not protected by ebay, but neither is the buyer, since the package was refused.

You have two options:

Cancel the order and refund it, taking the shipping costs as a loss.
Tell the buyer that the item is still theirs and will remain at their disposal; they can choose whether to:
- come pick it up or pay for a new shipment with the courier they prefer.
- accept a partial refund minus the shipping costs, but I think that would be hard for the buyer to swallow since free shipping was expected.
