German 1-cent euro coin completely in polished steel
Can anyone who knows their stuff tell me why it's made so differently? Just out of curiosity, how much could it be worth? It wasn't accepted when submitted to a famous auction, not interesting for collectors. Thanks, Luigi

Mentore2 years agoThe 1-2-5 cent coins are made of steel plated with a few microns of copper.
Someone had fun removing the plating with some acid and then polishing the steel coin.

OP2 years agoI am LUSO-111204 and, in response to marioelegio, I inform you that I am an honest and very old person, I am on the way out and I have never thought of cheating anyone. For your information, however, I inform you that euro cent coins of 1-2-5 cannot be treated with various acids and polished; if treated this way, they would be irreparably unrecoverable. The German 1 cent euro coin made of stainless steel has not undergone the electroplating process and the plating process, a process necessary to cover the coin with a thin layer of precious metal such as copper.: I do not know for what reason this process did not take place, so the coin remained made of shiny steel. Mentore2 years agoIn my comment there is no reference either to the fact that he was not honest or that he wanted to scam anyone. To remove the copper, ferric chloride can be used......

OP2 years agoExcuse me, I’d like to ask you all a lot of questions, in fact, reading the questions and your answers I realize how little knowledge I’ve gained over these years. At this point I have something in mind. I have a German 1 cent euro coin from 2013, completely in shiny steel and with 2 little spots, they seem golden to me, perhaps of brass or gilded bronze. I think it’s unique, but a famous auction dismissed it because it considered it not interesting for potential buyers. I’d like to show it to you, could someone give me some advice? some advice?
