VAT number

I tried to order an item after not placing any orders for a while, but at checkout I’m asked to enter my "VAT number/ID" but since I don’t have a VAT number of my own, I don’t have this number and so I can’t place the order since it shows up as a required field...what should I do??

Maybe it was enough to enter the tax code... many sellers require the tax code in order to issue the sales document...
