Item shipped, stolen and I had to refund the buyer
Summary: The discussion between coke19260 and cizeta1964 concerns a shipped item that was stolen, forcing the seller to refund the buyer. There are no specific details about what happened, but it is clear that the problem caused a disagreement or difficulty between the parties.
A buyer won an auction and I regularly shipped the parcel via Poste Italiane, using a service with a tracking code. The shipment contained 50 33 rpm vinyl records, carefully packed, but the buyer later claimed to have received only 20 of them.
The result was extremely damaging: in addition to losing the records I had shipped, I was also forced to fully refund the buyer. I tried to prove my good faith by also providing the shipping receipt with the weight of the parcel, an element that confirmed the consistency of the contents sent, but eBay did not want to take this evidence into consideration or investigate the situation further.
I would like to understand how I can better protect myself in the future and avoid a similar injustice from happening again, while still continuing to use Poste Italiane shipments.

OP4 months agoThanks for the reply. But basically 30 discs were kept, I would have been given back 20 discs and I was supposed to return the full amount and pay the shipping costs too.. let's forget it..

Mentore4 months agoI’m saying this because in doing so you paved the way for him; by forcing the return, he would have had to make the effort to get you at least 20 of them back within the agreed time, maybe he would have given up or settled for a partial refund 😉

OP4 months agoyou're probably right . but the fact is that ebay didn't want to hear reason and directly took from paypal the amount that that guy said , and it was useless to keep insisting with ebay that I had the photos and the receipt with the weight etc that proved it couldn't have been that empty ..the fact is that now I don't ship anymore..and I don't know how to protect myself if I want to ship again

Mentore4 months agoWhen a buyer opens a dispute for an item not as described, the first thing to do is arrange the return within the time allowed by eBay, because that way the buyer is forced to return it, in turn within the allowed time or else loses everything, or to accept a partial refund if they agree to it.
You file the appeal afterward, otherwise eBay refunds the buyer and waives the return because you did not provide the return label in time.

Mentore4 months agoThe result was extremely penalizing: in addition to having lost the discs I sent, I was also forced to fully reimburse the buyer.
The discs I sent should have been returned to you by the buyer (at your expense) if they wanted to be refunded
